Norms of Citizenship andPolitical Engagement of Young Adults

This paper explores the influence of citizen norms on political engagement. A sample of two hundred and seventy-five(275) students from two universities sited in the northwest Nigeria partook in the study through stratified proportionate method. Participants completed a (five) Likert scale questionnairein across-sectional surveyusing quantitative design.Drawing from Thompson’s democracy theory,this study examined the relationship between citizen norms and political engagement. The SmartPLS 3 softwarewas adopted inanalysingthe data collected. The results maintainedthe hypothesized effect of duty and engaged based norms on political engagementof youngsters. This implies a substantial effect, hencepropagatingextant literatureon political engagement.
